Media invited to Coast Guard award ceremony
BOSTON - The media are invited to attend an award ceremony Friday during which a Coast Guard boat crew from Station Castle Hill in Newport, R.I., will receive an award for rescuing a family of three from the frigid waters of Narragansett Bay, R.I., after their boat capsized Jan. 20, 2008.
  • Who: Master Chief Petty Officer John Downey will be presenting the award to six people from Coast Guard Station Castle Hill
  • What: The Meritorious Team Commendation Medal will be presented, as well as several individual awards
  • When: Media should arrive by 8:45 a.m., Friday May, 2, 2008
  • Where: Coast Guard Station Castle Hill, 75 Ridge Road Newport, RI 02840

Editor's Note: Coast Guard personnel will be available after the ceremony to give interviews in preparation for National Safe Boating Week, which runs from May 17-23, 2008.
